Top Sleep Tips
Hi everyone,
Matthew here, author of "I Can't Sleep". After a 6+ year journey with insomnia and an ambition to learn about it, I’m finally publishing a book about how to fix it. It was this journey and project that led me here.
For me, the single habit that improved my sleep was active learning and research—understanding the causes of my insomnia, how it had changed my mentality around sleep, and what I could do to help myself. Partially, it was my newfound depth of understanding that led to a depth of appreciation for the sleep process, convincing me to invest financially in quality sheets and sleep-supportive equipment, and giving me the knowledge and intent to build this website.
Some of my game-changing investments included a quality sleep mask, linen sheets, red light filter applications for my phone and computer, anti-EMF devices, and a handful of supplements. Routine has also been a big one. Morning sun, no late coffees, and a respectable bedtime. As learned from writing my book (you can find it on thesleepyemporium.com), I also discovered a deeper appreciation for meditation, stretching, and self-massage – including regulation of high-tension points (some through acupressure). I’ve been using my sleepware religiously, both for my computer work and just being around the house (my girlfriend thinks my blue-light glasses look pretty cool). And with the addition of a couple of well-placed lightbulbs, I feel like I’ve gone from amateur to pro as a sleeper.
Admittedly, I haven’t kicked all my bad habits (you’ve got to have some vices in life, right?), but I’m now in a place where I’m in love with sleep—passionate about all things that can optimise this fascinating health ritual.
I invite you to share some of your own sleep tips below. In sharing, we all benefit.
And if you have any questions for me, I'll do my best to answer them.
With much love,
Matthew
